Obituary

Our beloved mother, Wilma "Kay" Curry of Bolivar passed away in her home on April 9, 2017. She was born on November 22, 1934, to Vernon and Alta Shumaker of Golden, MO. She suffered a short illness which began shortly after her husband of 61 years, Johnny Bob Curry, passed just four months ago. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lewis Keith Shumaker, also known as her "little buddy."

She will be missed by her daughter, Tina and son-in-law, Pete; grandson, Hunter all of Springfield; her son, Ryan of Bolivar; her sister-in-law, Judy Shumaker; all of her nephews and nieces of Golden and Cassville, MO; and many neighbors and close friends will also feel her loss.

Our Mother was a second-generation teacher. She taught for many, many years in elementary schools in Missouri and Kansas. She last served as teacher-in-charge of the state school for the mentally handicapped in Bolivar. Mother dearly loved her students and they loved her as well. She, Ryan and Bob, loved garage sales, flea markets, and fast food outlets. Our mother was also a gifted painter, artist, and she instilled in me, at a very young age, the zest and love for books. We went to the Bolivar Library every Saturday when I was a little girl.

We don't want this to be a sad day! Our mother said that she suffered a broken heart after our dad died on December 11. Today, we celebrate their lives and that they are reunited in their love for one another forever. Their 62nd wedding anniversary would have been next month.

Funeral Services will be held on April 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM, at Midwest Cremation Funeral Services, 2026 W Woodland Street, Springfield, MO 65807. A private burial will follow the services in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to Polk County Library of Bolivar, 1690 W. Broadway Street, Bolivar, Mo. 65613.
