Wendell G. Good, 84, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Morton, IL, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017. He was born February 29, 1932, in Ludlow, IL, to Clarence and Florence Good. He served in the US Air Force and loved sports, teaching, being a coach, and singing. Wendell had a deep love for Jesus and it was evident to all who knew him. He was active in his faith his entire life.
He was an exceptional athlete in high school, college and the Air Force. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in his hometown of Pontiac, IL, for basketball and the Hall of Fame for baseball at Illinois State University. He also played baseball and basketball for a traveling team in the Air Force.
For teaching and coaching, Wendell started his career in Minier, Il, and went on to be Head of the Math department and coach varsity baseball for Morton High School, Morton, IL.
Wendell sang in many choirs, recorded a CD, and really enjoyed singing "God Bless the USA", for sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ralph Good.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Betty Good; children, Michael Good and wife Deborah, Gary Good and wife Sharla, Linda Good, Kevin Good and wife Lina; grandchildren, Doug, Brittany Houck and husband Bradley, Matthew, Caleb, Jared and Levi; great-grandchildren, Jared and Nadia; siblings, Leone Pytel, Dwight Good, Dwayne Good and Thelma Mize; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Wendell's life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2016, in the James River Church, South Campus, Ozark, MO.
Services will also be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017, in the Grace Church, 1325 E Jefferson St., Morton, IL 61550.
