Obituary

Vicki Lynne Batye, 65, of Springfield, MO passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024. She was born April 17, 1959, to George and Dorothy Greenfield in Batesville, AR.

Vicki was the second of four girls and was the only one to inherit her grandpa Elliott's red hair. And she lived up to hype-she was as stubborn as she was infinitely generous. Vicki was born in Batesville, Arkansas but grew up in Springfield, MO where she was a regular at Cherry Street Baptist Church youth events, a one-time Miss Merrie Christmas Finalist, Lot Lizard at A&W, and a member of the Glendale High School Scotties. She had one daughter, Lindsey, with her first husband. In 1985 she was the first of her sisters to leave the comfort of home in Springfield and moved to Columbia, Missouri where she found her professional calling at the Harry S Truman VA Hospital. She also found the love of her life in Jimmy Batye. They married in 1992 and lived a beautiful life in Hartsburg, Missouri. They spent many weekends traveling to bluegrass festivals and St. Louis Cardinals games. In later years they travelled often to tropical locations like Jamaica and Hawaii. Vicki and Jimmy both retired from the VA hospital and moved back to Springfield to be close to family. Vicki became the family party planner and was renowned among her clan for throwing elaborate monthly birthday parties at her home. She loved birthdays, 80's music, fancy jewelry, fine clothes, and most of all her family. Her legacy is one love and pure generosity- she was always willing and happy to help a friend or family member in need. In her final weeks, she urged us all to simply "love each other."

Vicki is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Batye; her grandmothers, Edith Elliott and Ella Greenfield; and her grandfathers, Lehman Elliott and Eugene Greenfield.

Vicki is survived by her daughter, Lindsey Davis; her parents, George and Dorothy Greenfield; her sisters, and their husbands, Brenda and Chuck Urvan, Tina and Bill Wester, and Donna and Mark Lawrence; as well as many nieces and nephews and great friends who will miss her greatly.

A celebration of Vicki's life will take place Saturday September 14, 2024, at the chapel at Cherry Street Baptist Church at 11am with a reception to follow at Coyote's Adobe Cafe in Springfield, MO. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
