Copeland, Vernon C

Vernon Copeland, 90, passed away Sun, Jan 29, 2023 at his home in Seymour, MO. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend, Vernon dedicated his life to his family, country, and community. Born in Wild Cherry, AR, Vernon served in the Army in West Germany during the early Cold War. Upon returning, Vernon spent 40+ years at Harding Glass and retired as the head of SW MO, with national Glassman of the Year accolades. Married over 53 years to loving wife Ruthie with two kids (Nancy and Mark), they lived all over SW MO, settling on a beautiful farm in Seymour where he raised cattle. In retirement, he was extraordinarily active - fishing, camping, reading thousands of books, and spending time with his four grand kids. A notable but humble community leader and role model who was loved by all who knew him, Vernon was a longtime Board Member of multiple organizations including the American Legion Post 306, the Seymour Senior Center, and the Kings Food Pantry. A faithful man and longtime member of the Seymour First Baptist Church, he was reunited in Heaven with many loved ones including Ruthie and Nancy.

Survived by son Mark Copeland; grandchildren Russell (Karishma) and Randall (girlfriend Kaitlyn) Stauder, Nathan (girlfriend Maggie) Copeland and Taylor (Trey) Jones; siblings Rita (Randall) Hawkins, William Tyler (Frances), Larry (Jane Ann) and Ron (Glenna) Atkins; and countless friends in the Seymour community. Preceded in death by wife Hazel Ruth Copeland, daughter Nancy Stauder, son-in-law Jim Stauder, sister Mary (Willie) Donn, and mother and father Ethel and Tyler Atkins. Visitation Fri Feb 3 from 6-8pm and funeral service Sat Feb 4 at 1pm both at Seymour First Baptist Church.
