IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tom Harold
Bergey
December 31, 1951 – July 31, 2016
Tom Harold Bergey was born December 31, 1951, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to Kelley and Ellwood (Buck) Bergey. Tom had two older brothers, Jack and Joe, and one younger brother, Ted.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Kelley; his father, Buck; brothers, Jack and Joe; and his beloved Aunt Martha and Grandpa Bill Harbin.
His family spent time in Colorado and California before moving to Oklahoma in 1965, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Donna Ligon in 1971. They had two wonderful children, Paul and Christy. They divorced after four years but always remained close friends. In 1980, Tom met Joni Mabry and they were married in 1982. They were blessed with one son, Dylan in 1988. Tom and Joni were married for 17 years and divorced in 1999. In 2010 Tom met his angel, Sheen Arnold. In 2011, he left Oklahoma and moved to Springfield, MO, with Sheen. They spent 6 amazing laughter filled years together before Tom's death on July 31, 2016.
Tom has four grandchildren, Chelsea, Cherish, Allyson and Adam. He loved watching them grow and seeing their accomplishments. Tom had an early love of food and music and they remained his passion throughout his life. His love of cooking included building his own herb farm where he grew an amazing variety of herbs, vegetables and flowers, hosted cooking demonstrations, catered events and authored a cookbook.
Tom's passion for cooking was only surpassed by his passion for music, especially guitars. His list of concerts reads like an encyclopedia of rock history, starting with his first concert, The Who.
Tom loved to make people smile and laugh and would go to great lengths to make that happen, whether that was cooking them a delicious meal, cracking jokes, wearing crazy masks or dancing around. He was an incredible artist and delighted in drawing, painting pictures, and creating guitar art. He loved kids and took great pride in mentoring anyone who had an interest in either music or food and always encouraged people to do what they loved and had a passion for.
A party for all those who loved this wonderful man will be at 5:00 pm on Friday, August 5, 2016, at the 319 Event Center in Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to help the family offset funeral expenses.
