Thomas J. Kachel, 73, of Springfield, MO., born September 10, 1944, passed peacefully on September 15, 2017. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Sydney Kachel, mother, Dorothy Sogge (nee), sister, Patricia Kachel, and partner, David Daly.
Thomas grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and would go on to earn an M.S. in Design from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He eventually moved to Springfield and served as a professor within the Department of Fashion and Interior at Missouri State University for 32 years.
Thomas was an advocate for the Springfield design community which was evident by his involvement in various organizations including the American Society of Interior Designers and Home Builder's Association.
An avid reader, he was deeply passionate about gardening, the joy that his cats brought him, world travel, and gourmet cuisine. He took pride in maintaining a beautifully landscaped and appointed home. The time that he devoted to his residence was recognized by many within the community, and afforded him the ability to be featured in various publications throughout the years.
All friends, former colleagues, and students are welcome to attend his celebration of life being held on Saturday, September 23rd at 6 p.m. in the Vandivort Hotel ballroom located in downtown Springfield.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a charitable donation in honor of Thomas to The Kitchen or Victory Mission.
