Obituary

Thelma Correne (Mathis) Owens, of Bolivar, Missouri, passed away August 11, 2021, after suffering years from multiple illnesses that slowed her down 3 years ago.

Thelma was born on February 19, 1940 in Jenkins, Missouri, to Harley and Jewel (Lasiter) Mathis.  Thelma lived in Kansas City, Kansas nearly half of her life, later half in Urbana/Buffalo/Bolivar, Missouri area where she was also a winter Texan in the McAllen area 20 years.

Thelma had a passion to cook (just like her mother), and did it impeccably, feeding the hungry crew at GM Fairfax during most her career before retiring in 1993 from Canteen.  At General Motors she met her second husband, Kenneth Owens, and they were married January 20, 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Charles (Georgia) Mathis, Susan "Fran" (David) Deener, a granddaughter Leslie Cross.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Owens of Bolivar, MO, children from the Kansas City area:  Michael Cross, Rhonda Cross, Kenneth Cross, Jeanie (Michael) Rock, Debra (Thomas Chapel) Owens, Gary Owens, Rebecca (Ronald) Whitehead of Littleton, NC, brother Kenneth (Diane) Mathis of Katy, TX, 3 generations of grandchildren totaling 23, and her dog Sassy of 14 years.
