Susie Barr's happy life was cut suddenly short on May 7, 2015, when she passed away due to complications from liver disease. She was 65 years young. Susie was born July 9, 1949, in Sedalia, MO. She and her sister Candee Dysart were both raised in Springfield by Gene and Edna Finch. In the summer of 1966 before her senior year at Glendale High School, she met Tom Barr on a crowded double date in an MG Midget. On August 21, 1971, they married, and they remained happily married for over 43 years. Susie always had a way with words, and spent years working in advertising and as a journalism teacher before deciding to focus full-time on raising her two sons, Brandon and Jason. She loved gardening and spent her weekends planting new life in her yard. Her favorite flowers were Black-Eyed Susans and Knockout Roses. She also took great pride in decorating her own home, the homes of friends, and new homes built by her husband Tom. Friends will remember her as a joyful person who loved life, whether she was playing cards with her Canasta friends, spending time with her beloved dogs, or bragging about the latest exploits of her only granddaughter Carys. A celebration of Susie's life will be held from 4-6 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at The Starlight Room of The Tower Club, Floor 22, 901 East Saint Louis Street, Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Children's Miracle Network of Cox Health, 3525 S National Ave #203, Springfield, MO 65807.
