Steven "Steve" Lynn Smoot, 71, of Springfield, MO, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was born August 29, 1953, to Herbert and Marjorie Smoot in Kansas City, MO.

Steve grew up in Raytown, MO, surrounded by family before briefly moving to southern Illinois where he met the love of his life, Cindy. He worked in the coal mines before moving to Springfield in 1978 and embarking on a career as a truck driver that spanned almost 45 years.

In his recent "retirement" years has had found a love for grilling and smoking meats, which played right into his always prescient love for gatherings. He loved being with his friends and family, sharing hearty meals, telling stories and making sure everyone had a nickname. Rarely did he not have a smile, even as he faced a daunting enemy, he did so with strength and courage and smiled as much as he could.

He is survived by his bride of 52 years, Cindy; sons, Chris (Anne) and Michael; grandchildren, Jackob, Steven, Lucas, Rose, Kaleb and Gavin; his brother, Jim (Kim); sisters, Cheryl (Mark) and Susan (Ron); and in-laws, Bruce, Joan, Debbie, Marsha, Kathy and Merri Beth; as well as many nieces and nephews who will all miss him tremendously.

There will be a celebration of life at 1 pm, Tuesday, 1 July at Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services, 2026 W Woodland St, Springfield, MO. Friends and family are encouraged to wear St. Louis Cardinals or KC Chiefs attire and join the family for BBQ afterwards.
