Steven Edward Patrom was born December 23, 1961 in St. Louis, MO. He made Heaven his home on October 4, 2018 in Springfield, MO at the age of 56.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, and endured many struggles in the last 4.5 years. He was a fighter all the way. But he is now free of all pain and breathing freely. Praise God!
Steven was a man of deep faith in God. He was a born again, spirit-filled Christian, who professed his faith to everyone he came in contact with. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and trusted exclusively in God and the cross of Christ for his salvation. Some of his favorite Bible scripture comes from Ephesians, Chapter 2:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."
Part of his belief was it's not what you do in and of yourself - it's what Jesus did at the cross. He died for us so that we may live. He was a kind, gentle man that was liked by all he met. He was the "favorite" patient of numerous doctors and nurses, and always had a kind manner and a big smile for all his caregivers. They always looked forward to their visits with him. When asked, "How are you doing?" his response was always, "Pretty good," even when he was having a bad day.
In his youth he worked on a few dairy farms, which in his words made him a "cowboy" because he milked cows. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He worked for several years in the restaurant industry as a chef. And after that, he was self-employed; he loved being his own boss. One of his greatest attributes was his organizational skills. "Nice, neat, straight and pretty" was his favorite motto.
He impacted more lives than he realized, and will be missed enormously.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Wright, and his father, Daniel Stanovie.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marsha; a sister whom he cherished, Teressa Belt; two brothers who were very close to his heart, Mike and Scott Patrom; a step-son, Chris McGuire; a daughter, Cynthia and her family; two grand-daughters, Tiffaney and Bethaney; and a great-grandson, Tyler, whom he thought was really cool! His in-laws, Alvin and Marla Sperle, and family were very special to him. Many other extended family members also had a very special place in his heart.
A heartfelt thank you to all of his caregivers at Mercy for their compassion and care.
To Dr. Mindy Kendrick, for watching over him for almost 15 years as his physician - Steve thought the world of you. He is now shouting in heaven.
To a special friend, Caroline, who was an advocate for him for over nine years - Thank you for all of your help and company along the way.
To his No. 1 neighbor, Ted, who faithfully checked on Steven every day and was always wanting him to "come out and play" - Thank you for your concern, and especially for your friendship.
To his dear friend, Ronnie, his brother in Christ - He will be waiting for you in his Mansion on High.
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him I will trust." Psalm 91:1-2
