Obituary

Shirley Jean Watkins, 86, of Republic, MO, passed away April 6, 2022. She was born May 21, 1935, in Koshkonong, MO, to Joe and Burnice Swope.

Shirley will be remembered for carrying herself with a strong spirit. No matter what life brought her way, she always had a cheerful attitude and smile on her face. She enjoyed work at MDA with her many friends and working at the Shoe Factory in West Plains years ago.  She was committed to her local church daycare and helping out in the kitchen. The children lovingly called her Miss Shirley.
Shirley enjoyed her trips to GW with her daughter, as well as tending her flower garden. Geraniums were her favorite. She also appreciated weekly rendezvous out to the local restaurants with her two sons, Rick and Michael.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Watkins; parents; and brother, Billy Joe Swope.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Rick Watkins, Vickie Lance and husband Aaron, and Michael Watkins; sister, Sue Mustion and husband Jim; brother, Jim Swope and wife Jean; 10 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Hershey.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her!


Services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 20, 2022, in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO.
