Shirley McCann

Shirley Jean McCann, 70, of Springfield, MO passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026. She was born January 19, 1956, to Samuel and Beatrice King in Marshfield, MO.

Shirley's story began on a dairy farm in Boaz, MO. She spent her childhood there where she grew up with her brothers, Sam King and Kenny King. And her sisters, Carol Loomis and Judy King Parker. She graduated from Clever High School and then met her husband of 34 years, Richard McCann. They would then move on to start their own family and eventually found their home in Springfield, MO.

Shirley's primary job was with Ferrell Duncan Clinic where she would eventually retire from but her true passion was writing. She was a published author of several mystery novels and became an amazon best seller. She also had numerous short stories published in Woman's World magazine. In 1997, she would found a local mystery writer's group known as Sleuth's Ink, where she would grow it from its initial 5 members to well over 40 and still growing.

Shirley's other interests included reading, ghost hunting, and watching Cardinals baseball. She loved listening to "oldies" on the radio and singing along to all of them. She also never missed an opportunity to watch Andy Griffith and could quote every line from the show. But her main interest was being a mom and a "meemaw" to her grandkids. She loved spending time with her family and friends every chance she could.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Richard McCann. Her parents Sam and Judy King. Her sister, Judy King Parker. And her beloved dog, Little Bit.

She leaves behind her son, Sam McCann. Her daughter, Kimberly Smith. Her grandchildren Kody Mitchell, Chariot Ryan, Kylie McCann, Khloe McCann, and Jackson McCann. Her brothers, Sam King, Kenny King, and her sister Carol Loomis. Along with numerous other family and friends.

Shirley had a contagious warmth and loving nature. Her sense of humor was second to none. Anyone who knew her would never forget her. She touched everyone's hearts and will truly be missed
