Springfield

Sherry Jo Jentes Dogwiler, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, following a period of declining health and a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Dover, Ohio on February 2, 1948.

Sherry was a 1966 graduate of Dover High School. She and Donald (Don) Dogwiler were married in 1970 and were the proud parents of their son, Toby, and their daughter, Laurel. During the early years of their marriage, they owned the Mustang, a popular night spot in Tuscarawas County. Sherry went on to spend many years working in the banking industry in Stark County, Ohio, and later in Zanesville, Ohio.

Following their retirement, Sherry and Don were able to realize their dream of moving to the warm climate of Florida. They spent several years in the Cape Coral and Fort Myers areas, enjoying the company of many friends and visits from family. After Don’s passing, Sherry returned to the frigid north for a brief period but eventually made her way back to her beloved Florida. As her health declined, she moved to Springfield, Missouri to be near her son and his family.

Sherry treasured the many friendships she made in her school days and throughout her life, but her greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren. Although they were separated by miles, they were never far from her heart.

She is survived by her son, Toby (Katie) Dogwiler of Springfield, Missouri; her daughter, Laurel (Bill Statczar) Borrero of Johnstown, Ohio; three grandchildren, Nelson Borrero, Nyah Dogwiler, and Elise Statzcar; her brothers, Gary (Margie) Jentes of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Ralph (Barb) Jentes of Uniontown, Ohio, and Robert Jentes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Roy Gordon and Ralph and Eileen Jentes; her sister and brother-in-law, Diane (James) Schilling; and her brother-in-law, Richard Dogwiler.

A memorial service followed by a light meal will be held on October 18, 2026 from 1 PM to 3 PM at Toland-Herzig Monarch Center in Dover, OH.
