Sam was born on March 9, 1991, to Charmelle Green and Samuel E Smith, Sr. and passed away on April 26, 2023. He was a devoted and loving brother to his five siblings, and a proud father to his daughter. Samuel moved to Springfield with his family from St. Louis when he was ten years old and attended Boyd and Williams Elementary schools, Reed Middle School where he excelled in athletics, and Hillcrest High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He was a gifted athlete. Sam studied HVAC at OTC and later received a certificate in automotive technology. He loved working on cars and motorcycles and even more loved riding his motorcycle. His greatest love was for his family and close friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Charmelle Green. He is survived by his daughter, Maleah Smith, and his siblings, Vincent Tate (St. Louis), Dorial Green-Beckham (KC, MO), Sydney Rayford (Aurora, Illinois), Darnell Green (NYC), and Johnesha Manning (Joplin MSSU), and his maternal grandmother, Linda Green, aunt Marty Green, and uncle, AB Green, all of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by his foster and surrogate parents, Tracy and John Beckham, and Linda and Darrell Zweerink, who all became lifelong friends and companions.
Services will be held on June 3, 2023, at Central Christian Church, 1475 N. Washington Ave, Springfield, MO 65802, with a visitation/reception at 1 PM and a memorial service at 2 PM. Ashes will be interred at Maple Park Cemetery at a later date.
