IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roma
Harness
May 14, 1940 – June 3, 2024
It is with a mix of sadness and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Roma Lee Harness (Long), age 84, of Walnut Grove, Missouri. Roma peacefully passed away in the care of Ash Grove Healthcare Facility on June 3, 2024. Born on May 14, 1940, in Caulfield, Missouri, Roma was the beloved daughter of Vernon and Fern Long.
Roma married the love of her life, Ronald A. Harness, on October 15, 1960. Together, they shared over 61 wonderful years of marriage until Ron's passing on August 4, 2022. Roma was a devoted mother and homemaker during her children's early years. Later, she ventured into the realm of real estate, before finding her calling in the insurance industry, where she dedicated herself for many meaningful years.
Roma was a woman who truly lived life to the fullest. She had a deep love for the outdoors and took pride in maintaining their beautiful home in Walnut Grove alongside Ron. Roma loved fishing, boating, beachcombing for seashells, dancing, her family and music—especially the performances of her grandson, Brock, of whom she was his biggest fan.
In her later years, Roma bravely faced Alzheimer's disease for approximately 14 years. Ron lovingly cared for her at home until November 2020, when she moved to the Ash Grove Healthcare Facility. There, she was warmly embraced by her extended family, and her vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. One nurse fondly recalled a conversation among the staff about whom they would take with them in an apocalypse; most chose Roma. She was affectionately nicknamed "Roma Tomato" and "Roamin' Roma" by those who adored her for her constant roaming and quick movements, always keeping everyone on their toes. Full of energy, fun, and a touch of craziness, Roma brought joy to those around her. During her passing, it was evident that she had left a profound and lasting impression on those who cared for her.
Roma will be fondly remembered for her love of the color red, her fondness for chocolate, and later in life her collection of bold, gaudy costume jewelry. Her signature hats and unique, spirited dancing (and clapping off beat) were hallmarks of her vibrant personality. Roma's zest for life was infectious, and she brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Her ability to find delight in the simplest pleasures and her unwavering spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Roma is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Fern Long; her husband, Ronald A. Harness; her son, Ronald Arthur Harness Jr. and her son-in-law, Bryan Wade.
She is survived by her daughter, Rene Wade; her sisters, Ida Beth Charlton and Nora Kay Hoevelman; her brother, Vernon Long, and his wife, Kathy Long; her sister-in-law, Shirley Ross; her brother-in-law, Jerald Harness; her grandchildren, Trey Harness with Sara Worrell, Brock Wade with his wife Jessica, and Elizabeth Harness; her great-grandchildren, including two great-granddaughters, Lilah Wade and Cloe Harness, and two great-grandsons, Eli Harness and Ledger Wade; her many nieces and nephews, her extended family at Ash Grove Healthcare Facility; and numerous other treasured family members and friends.
A celebration of Roma's life will be held at The Walnut Grove City Park, 212 E. College St., Walnut Grove, MO, on June 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
Friends and family are invited to join us in honoring her memory and the beautiful life she led. A time of remembrance with light refreshments will follow the service.
