Robert Alan Carter: A Life Painted with Passion and Primer

Robert Alan Carter, 63, of South Greenfield, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 10, 2025. Robert was a lifelong craftsman whose passion and dedication to his work were only surpassed by his devotion to his family.

Born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Robert was a talented painter from his teenage years until the very day he passed. His extensive and impressive career spanned decades, showcasing his versatile skills across the automotive industry. Early in his career, he owned his own business, Lead Sleds, and later ran a shop out of his garage—sometimes even in other people's garages—quickly becoming the go-to neighborhood expert for any job that needed to be done.

His professional achievements included bodywork on cars, semis, limousines, trailers, insurance work, restoring cherished pedal cars, putting up fence, roofing, construction as well as sticker jobs for the postal service. He was a jack of all trades He worked for several notable shops like Earl Shives, Kenworth and Debryans Limosine.

In his later career, he spent over a decade at the Greenfield Body Shop and then 10 years at Ric's Customs and Classics, followed by more than ten years at T&B Welding. There, he developed a legendary, almost assembly-line-like "running with a water hose" style, painting thousands of trailers a year—a true sight to behold.

Robert's passions included traveling, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his kids and grandkids, and taking pride in his work. He loved everything about cars, motorcycles, and engines. A dedicated and hardworking man, he also deeply appreciated the simple pleasures in life: a delicious breakfast, a relaxing day, and a dinner roll or two. He had an unparalleled sweet tooth. Robert loved people, telling unforgettable stories, and talking to anyone who would listen for hours. He dreamed of traveling the United States, getting a tattoo of the U.S. map, and marking each state as he visited—documenting his interesting journeys along the way. Robert had a genuine heart and always sought to help others, doing whatever he could without complaint.
