Obituary

Robert Thane Alberty, 69, of Clever Missouri passed away on August 1, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

Rob was born to John William Alberty and Allatia "Louise" Alberty (Fullerton) on May 18, 1952 in Fairfax, Missouri.  He attended grade school in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and later went to Junior and Senior High Schools in Jefferson City, Missouri, graduating with the class of 1970.  While in high school Rob participated in many sports, including track and Jeff City Jay's football.  Following high school, he attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield where he belonged to Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a degree in Business in 1974.  Rob was a lifelong Southwest Missouri State Bear's fan and supporter.

In 1980 Rob became a partner in ownership of Uncle Bentley's Pub and Lounge in Springfield where he met Connie Jo Hines, the love of his life.  Connie and Rob were married on December 27, 1981. They were each other's rock and everyone knew just how much Rob loved his Connie Jo.

In January of 1988 Rob and a group of partners purchased Hidden Valley Golf Links in Boaz, Missouri, a business that Rob nurtured and was actively involved in until the time of his death. In his role at Hidden Valley Rob touched the lives of countless members and employees and was a constant presence in the pro shop.  He was the first boss to so many kids in Clever and surrounding areas, which also reflects just how patient Rob was.  He was proof that you don't have to be related by blood to be a father figure and he will be greatly missed by so many that saw him in that light. Rob was also actively committed to his community.  He presided over the Stone County Planning and Zoning Board for many years.

Charming and witty, with a jolly smile to match, Rob was an all-around great guy.  There was always a conversation that included something about being a "Catch 22", a "Worse Case Scenario", a "This, That and the Other", or "Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other."  Quick with a crossword puzzle, a talented artist, and an impressive dancer (as long as his lady partner could keep up!). All of these things were Rob.  You could often find Rob and Connie cruising in a cart around the golf course in the evening, enjoying a MSU Bear's basketball game, or kicking back with friends for a cocktail at Uncle Bentley's.    And, of course, we can't leave out the regular battles he had with the "The Bandits!"  You know who you are, and those stories and tall tales will be yours to remember.

In addition to his loving wife Connie, of the home, Rob is survived by his brother Blaine Alberty (Ann) of Columbia, as well as nieces; Kelly Alberty Della Rocca (Greg) of Columbia and Sally Henson Peterson (Trevar) of Oklahoma City, and nephews; Adam Henson (Alisa) of Kansas City, Missouri, Darran Alberty (Tanya) of Columbia, Paul Henson of Oklahoma City, and Patrick Alberty (Katie) of New York City, NY.   Sisters in-law Elaine Hines and Karen Christensen also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Alberty, his sister, Marsha Suzanne Alberty Henson (Ken), and sister in-law Janet Hines.

We would like to thank the caring and professional staff at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri who helped Rob and our family during his final days.  We will be forever grateful for the excellent care they gave Rob, and the kind and thoughtful guidance they provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to a charity of their choice.

Memorial service to be held at a later date to be announced.
