Richard "Papaw" Joseph Schott, 86, of Springfield, MO passed away Friday, October 20, 2023. He was born August 25, 1937, to Michael and Julia Schott in Ste. Genevieve, MO.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael Jr. and Jim; and beloved dog, Mattie Mae.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, and four children: Jennifer and Tom Klein of Springfield, MO; Sara and Kevin Reisenbichler of Kansas City, MO; Derek Schott of Berlin, NH; and Benjamin and Lisa Schott of Gorham, NH; grandchildren Elliott Klein, Annie Klein, Julia Klein, Oliver Reisenbichler, Sam Reisenbichler, and Emmett Schott.

Richard grew up in Ste. Genevieve and then St. Louis, where he attended vocational school for drafting. He served in the United States Army from 1955-63 and then worked in the construction industry, eventually owning a commercial glass business in St. Louis. He and Linda were married in 1970 and raised their family in the St. Louis area until moving to Springfield, MO in 1994. Richard was an avid sports fan, especially of Cardinals baseball. He loved being a father and even more so a Papaw and was widely adored by the friends of his children and grandchildren. Later in life he found great joy in planning (and of course eating) meals, tinkering in the garage, and sitting on the porch. Richard was known for his kindness, his humor, and his capacity to embrace the differences of others. He taught us to lead with love.
