Richard Ford, of Springfield, Missouri passed away Wednesday February 7 at his home. Richard is 78 years of age, born May 22, 1944, to Harold & Lois Ford of Hannibal, Missouri.

Richard and wife Candice raised their two children in Hannibal. He graduated in 1963 at West Aurora High School (Aurora, IL) and received a BA from University of Illinois Chicago in 1969. Richard taught Spanish and English at Hannibal Jr. High School from 1969 to 1979. He spent some of those summers as a house painter. His superb skills in math then earned him an opportunity as Merchandiser/Asst. Manager at Bunge Grain elevator in East Hannibal, IL from 1979 – 1987. He then transferred to the Bunge grain elevator in Louisiana, MO as General Manager from 1987 - 1998. In 1999 he moved to Springfield to help care for his father.  He worked for various employers during this time including as an operator at a transmission production plant. He served Springfield Public Schools from 2004 to 2007 teaching math and English at Cherokee Middle and Hillcrest High School. In Hannibal, Richard belonged to the BPO Elks #1198,1974 – 1993, serving a term as Exalted Ruler.

Richard is survived by his wife Candice, his son Scott, and three grandchildren Patrick Minor, and Isabella & Eleanor Ford. He was preceded in his departure by his daughter, Katherine (Kate) Minor. There will be a Celebration of Life Friday Feb. 16 from 5:00 - 7:00 at Midwest Chapel 2026 W. Woodland, Springfield, MO. 65807. A short prayer service will be held at 5:30. All who would like to attend are welcome.
