Obituary

On Sunday, November 16th, 2025, Norma Faye Childs passed away in her home. Norma was born to Elsie and Lloyd Phillips in Juliaetta, Idaho on March 2, 1936. She attended Lewiston High School, graduating in 1954, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cascade College in 1959. She later completed a Master's in Education at Oregon State University.

On April 7, 1957, she married the love of her life, Carl Childs, and together they shared nearly 67 years of a beautiful, devoted marriage. Norma spent more than three decades as a beloved teacher, beginning with thirteen years in high school English before answering a call to elementary education within the North Clackamas School District, where she worked for over twenty years until her retirement. Teaching was only one reflection of her lifelong devotion to caring for others. Norma's compassion reached far beyond the classroom—she created a chosen family wherever she went. If someone needed a friend, a roof over their head, or a motherly presence, she was there without hesitation. In her spare time, she visited nursing homes to bring candy and conversation to those who were lonely, sent thoughtful cards to those on her church's prayer list, and was always ready to pray with anyone in need of comfort. A devoted member of the Church of God, a Worldwide Association, Norma remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. Her legacy is one of quiet, constant love—expressed through kindness, generosity, and genuine care for every soul she met.

Norma is survived by her children Debra Nelson, Doug Childs, and Denise McKnight; grandchildren Sarah Nelson, Abigail Nelson, Camron Childs, Robert Kelley, David Hartman, and William Hartman; and great-grandchildren Hudson McKnight, Honor McKnight, Vincent McKnight, Marshall McKnight, Dakota Hartman, and Ryder Hartman.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl, her parents, and her grandson Michael Hartman.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 7th, at 3:30 p.m. at Step by Step Dance Studio, 1722 S. Glenstone Ave. G, Springfield, MO 65804. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered—always.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
