Minnie Grace (Dennis) McCullah was born to George David Dennis and Luella (Traughber) Dennis on October 26, 1925. She and William Franklin McCullah married in 1946 and reared their family in Crane until his death in 1977. Widowed at age 52 and having no work skills, she enrolled in a training program, worked in the medical records offices at Cox Medical Centers until retirement, then worked more than twenty years at White Water and Silver Dollar City until failing health forced her second retirement. A supportive, generous, rock-solid, fun, and humorous lady, Miss Gracie reared three generations of children and grandchildren. She didn t want to give up her own home and her independence, but in recent years consented to live with her son in Springfield, where she remained the nucleus of an extended group of family and friends. Her last illness occurred suddenly last Thursday night. On Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2014, we believe a big, boisterous homecoming occurred at the same time five generations of her family surrounded her hospital bed to say goodbye and let her go. Miss Gracie loved and enjoyed her friends, but her life was being Granny to her family: her children, Kathryn Murray and William McCullah; grandchildren, Lisa Murray Roberts and Jeff Roberts, Kara Murray Cox and Art Cox, Kimberly Murray and Charles Walsh, William McCullah and Meghan Blackwood McCullah, and Amy McCullah Scates and Joshua Scates; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Beverly Tanner, Beau Springer, Austin Cox, Bailey McCullah, Blake Ivey, Alexis Scates, Devon Scates, Madison McCullah, Conner McCullah, Shane McCullah, Lachlan McCullah, and Tadhg McCullah; great-great grandchildren, Patience Tanner and Justice Tanner; nieces and nephews, Sue Ellen and Jack Williams, Wayne and Jeanie Kanapkey, Stephen Dennis, Mary and Randy Williams, Donald Dennis, David and Bonnie Dennis, Sean Dennis, and Kelly and Darrell Lake; and a host of friends. Her family honored her wishes that she be cremated, that we hold no formal service, and that her ashes be scattered by those she loved. The family gathered over the weekend to remember and celebrate her life and will make a final trip to take her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services, Springfield, MO.
