It is with great sadness and regret that his family announces the death of Mike Hounsell, who passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2024, in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 55.

Michael Joseph Hounsell was born November 16, 1968, in Falls Church, VA to Carol Geary, shortly before moving back to California to be closer to his mother's family.  Mike attended Glendale High School where he was on the Water Polo and Swim teams where he met many lifelong friends.  In 1993, he graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Economics and in 1994 moved to Colorado where he became a father to Jadin (with Amy Cruickshank).

In 2013, Mike moved from Colorado to Missouri where he lived until his unfortunate passing in August 2024.

He was the eldest of five siblings and loved them dearly (Ann, Jackie, Scott, Carrie).  Though Mike never knew his birth father, he was blessed with two men who loved him as a son.  Pete Hansen (Ann and Jackie's Father) who passed away in 2021, always treated Mike as his own and maintained a close relationship with Mike beyond the end of his marriage to Mike's mother.  Ken Hounsell (Scott and Carrie's father) married Mike's mother in 1981 and also considered Mike as one of his own.

Mike is survived by his son, Jadin; mother and father, Carol and Ken; siblings, Ann, Jackie, Scott, and Carrie; and an uncountable number of friends.

Mike didn't have friends.  He had family.  Each and every one of us was his brother and sister, and he loved everyone around him. He was the life of every party, and if there wasn't a party to be had, Mike would make one.  He loved being in the water and music. He brought joy to everyone around him whether through his witty, albeit sometimes inappropriate humor, or through the random phone calls and texts to remind us he was just thinking about us.
