Michael Ray Barrand, 58, of Springfield, MO, passed away June 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving and close family. He was born June 24, 1960, in Orange, CA, the son of Sharon (Strever-Guthrie) Barrand.

Mike was united in marriage to Karen Tigges on December 6, 1997, and to this union two wonderful children were born; Alex and Josie.

Mike was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and son. He could often be found supporting Alex at various science competitions across the state or on the sidelines of Josie's volleyball games cheering her on. He was a very supportive father and so proud of his children and their many accomplishments.

In his early years, Mike was a gymnast that excelled on the rings and a competitive swimmer. Later, Mike enjoyed gold panning and metal detecting, watching documentaries or scary movies with his children, fishing, hunting, exploring the great outdoors, going to the beach, or just playing around in local rivers and streams. He was also a huge KU basketball fan.

Mike will be remembered as the comedian of the family that could make up crazy song lyrics in an instant or bring a laugh with his impeccable timing and great sense of humor.

Mike's dedication to his family and in-laws was even more apparent when he took over the family business and made it his own, named M-Bar Steel. It was a career change that he accepted head on and thrived in this new role.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gladys H. (Elston) Guthrie; and his father and mother-in-law, Gary and Bonnie Tigges.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen Barrand; son, Alex Barrand; daughter, Josie Barrand; and mother, Sharon Barrand.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.
