Michael Shane Atwood, 42, of Lake St. Louis, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 25, 2015, at his home. He was born February 14, 1972, in St.Louis County, Missouri, to Michael and Karen Atwood. He was the oldest of their four children. In 1996, Michael became a proud parent to his daughter Courtney Atwood. Michael graduated from University of Missouri at St. Louis and went on to become a Special Education teacher with the Fort Zumwalt School District. Due to hearing loss he took an early retirement. Michael also owned his own specialty shop, called The Garage on Main Street, in historic St. Charles, where he specialized in die cast model cars. Michael loved helping people. He enjoyed his time as a teacher and cared deeply for his students, helping them to overcome many obstacles. Michael loved animals, especially his own cats and fish. He loved to cook and travel, his favorite places being Michigan, but most of all, Key West, Florida. He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Atwood; best friend and partner, Derek Piasecki; parents, Michael and Karen Atwood; siblings, Shana Ortega, Gabriel Atwood, Judah Schumacher, Danny Kreisman, and Melinda Kreisman; five nieces, five nephews, one great nieces, and four great nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2015, with funeral services following at 3 PM, in the Chapel at Elfindale, 1701 S. Fort Ave, Springfield, MO 65807. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services.
