Melvin E. Thornton, Jr., 66, of Springfield, MO, passed away October 12, 2021. He was born November 28, 1954, in Honolulu, HI, to Melvin and Hazel Thornton.

"Ed" was a lifelong fisherman, hunter, and builder. He spent most of his time outdoors or working on creative projects that included woodworking, construction, writing, and unique inventions.  Ed was an intelligent, down to earth man with a sense of humor. He was also a giver – providing for others, asking for nothing in return, was something he did often.

He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Larry Thornton.

Melvin is survived by his children, Dot Moroti and husband Adrian, Margaret Thornton and partner Chris Rayl, Rachael Kiser, Ned Frantz, and Katrina Prock and partner Patrick Wilson; grandchildren, Cory Moehl, Jacob Kiser, Landon Rayl, Francesca Rayl, Isla Rayl, Billy Bass Jr., Riley Campbell, Lexi Moroti and Jack Moroti; niece, Jessica Thornton; nephew, Nicholas Thornton; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins and MANY great friends.

Ed will forever be missed by many.
