Mary Alta McLemore, 96, of Springfield, Missouri passed away April 19, 2026. She was born December 29, 1929, in Apache, Oklahoma to Alex and Vesta McDonald.
Mary moved to Springfield in the late 1950’s from Cassville, Missouri and remained there for the rest of her life. She worked various jobs over the years but found her greatest joy and purpose in caring for her home and raising her family. Mary was married to her beloved husband, Joe, for 62 years, a testament to her deep love and devotion.
Mary had a servant’s heart and a deep love for her children and family, always putting them first and cherishing every moment spent together. She enjoyed writing, often expressing her thoughts, memories, and faith through her words. She also had a passion for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals that brought her family together around the table. Mary was also a talented seamstress who could sew nearly anything, using her creativity and skill to make and mend items for those she loved. Whether sharing a recipe, a story, or laughter, those moments were treasured by all who knew her.
Her faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. Mary was a devoted Christian, a faithful prayer warrior, and a longtime member of Grace Bible Church and National Heights Baptist Church. She found strength, peace, and purpose in her relationship with the Lord and spent many years serving God and encouraging others in their faith. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering belief were a guiding light to her family and community.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Vesta; two sisters; her husband, Joe; and her daughter, Kathy.
She is survived by her son, Mark McLemore and wife Tiffany; son-in-law Terry Wilkes; grandchildren, Grace Gasek, Roman Gasek, Finley McLemore, Marcus Wilkes and wife JoJo, Harrison Wilkes; and three great-grandchildren, Addison, Cohen and KJ.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. at National Heights Baptist Church, 3050 N. National Ave., Springfield, Missouri 65803. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services.
