Obituary

Marcene "Memmaw" Marie Frakes-Dodd, peacefully followed her husband to the other side on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at exactly 7:00 PM. After her husband Ralph Dodd passed away on February 9, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and joined him 6 days later. They had been married for 81 years and she wanted nothing more than to join him again.  In her words, "It has always been Ralph and Marcene and I do not want to be just Marcene."

Marcene was born in Steele, MO to William Thomas Frakes who was considered a pioneer resident of the community, and Ada Belle Adams-Frakes.  She was raised on the farm and often helped pick cotton in the fields. She learned to drive at a very young age to assist with driving the hands to and from work.  She was proud to be a homemaker and raise her four children. Memmaw was the text-book definition of a Grandma. There was always a pie, or cake, and she made the best chicken and dumplings to exist.  When visiting, there was often an aroma of vinegar in the air as she canned all of their own cucumbers for pickles.  She was also known to make her grandkids dresses and Halloween costumes as she was an excellent seamstress.

Marcene was a lifelong member of the church of Christ being a member of the church in all places they lived including Steele, MO, Maryland Heights, MO, Ft. Myers, FL, West Plains, MO, Branson, MO (Hollister church), West End in St. Charles, MO, Protem, MO and now Sunset in Springfield, MO.

Marcene is survived by her Grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan (Hope), Jeannie, Tom (Trish), Mark, Lisa (Kevin), Ben, Jeff (Marissa), Katie, Bradley, and Brian; her many Great Grandchildren, Marcy, James, Finley, Kristin, Anna, Mark, Gabby, Garrett, Genna, Violet, Mia, Emily, Mike, Ethan, and Sydney; and Great Great Grandchildren, Giana Joy, Blake, Abigail Grace, Jordan and Rylan. She is also survived by her niece, Darla (Dwayne) and her nephew, Chuck (Dana) amongst a great many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Jackson Dodd just 6 days prior. She was tragically preceded in death by her children, Marcy Marie Dodd-Miller, Sharon Kay Dodd-Farley, Ralph Jackson Dodd ll, and Timothy Wayne Dodd.  Also, her parents, and her sisters, Wanda, Gertie, and Peggy, and her brothers Odell, and Boone.

Services will be held in March at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where her ashes will be buried along with her husbands, with honors, as he proudly served our country.
