Mabel Addison

August 21, 1939 — March 31, 2026

Springfield

Mabel Ruth (Pruitt) Addison, age 86, of Springfield, MO danced into Heaven on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 in Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving daughters and sons - in- law. Mabel was born August 21, 1939, on the family farm in Richland, MO to Robert Bruce Pruitt and Goldie Alleen (Trower) Pruitt. She graduated from Stoutland High School in 1957. Mabel met and fell in love with Jesus Christ at a young age. She often talked with Jesus as she did her farm chores specifically asking God to send her a Christian husband. She surrendered her life to follow God wherever He asked her to go. After graduation from HS Mabel attended Draughon Business College in Springfield MO. The secretarial skills she learned there would serve her well in her life. God answered her prayers by sending a young man as pastor to her home church of Elm Grove Baptist Church in the fall of 1958. They had their first date in February 1959 and on Sunday June 7, 1959 Mabel married Henry Marion Addison, Jr at that same small church. Henry felt called by God to serve the rural church. During his 50+ years of ministry he pastored several small Southern Baptist churches in Southwest MO, Kansas, and the Sedalia area. During this time, Mabel was an active part of his ministry. She supported him always, prayed for him constantly and worked outside the home when necessary to help support the family financially. After retiring from full-time ministry, Mabel and Henry continued to serve the church by teaching Sunday School and serving in various ministries including Campers On Mission. Having moved to Springfield in 2017, they became active members of South Haven Baptist Church. Mabel loved her church family and appreciated so much all the ones who made it possible for her to continue attending after she stopped driving.

Besides the love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Henry’s love was the most important thing to Mabel. At the time of Henry’s passing they had been married 63+ years and one of the things Mabel most looked forward to was being reunited with him. Three daughters were born to this union and Mabel loved being a mama. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many of the clothes the family wore. She created custom draperies and upholstery and together with Henry supplemented their income over the years by doing this type of work for many individuals and businesses. She loved her family well, spending as much time as she could with her girls, her sons-in-law, their kids and grandkids. Relationships were important to her and she valued her extended family and her many, many friends.

Mabel is preceded in death by her precious husband and one son-in -law Kent Dinsdale. Also preceding her are her parents and siblings Robert Glenn Pruitt, Lloyd Pruitt, Ruby Harper, and Laura Pruitt. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Rebecca and Ken Keltner of El Dorado Springs, MO, Miriam and Wilbur Durnell of Weaubleau, MO and Martha Dinsdale of Rolla, MO. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
