Obituary

Linda Sue Vaughn, 65, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on January 14, 1959, in Nevada, Missouri, she was the youngest daughter of Iris and Winford Scritchfield.

On February 14, 1977, Linda married her soulmate, Gary Dean Vaughn. Their marriage lasted 47 years, and together they shared 50 wonderful years filled with love and companionship. Her family was the heart of her life, and Linda's most cherished moments were the births of her children and the joy of being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Linda dedicated 44 years of her life to being a caregiver, sharing her compassionate and nurturing spirit with all those she cared for. Outside of her work, she had a deep love for plants and flowers, and she was known for her green thumb. Linda also had a special place in her heart for her beloved pets—Ziggy, Bella, and all of her turtles.

One of her fondest memories in recent years was her trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where she saw the ocean for the first time, a moment that brought her great joy.

Linda is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Sr., and their three children: Linda Vaughn Williams (Tim), Gary Vaughn Jr., and Ryan Vaughn. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren, including two who lived at home with her and Gary Sr., and she was also blessed with three great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Linda shared a special bond with her mother-in-law, Dorothy Vaughn Riggs, who preceded her in death, as did her sister, Brenda Farmer.

She is also survived by her sister, Cynthia Scritchfield, and her in-laws: Richard and Leda Shrull, Allen and Bonnie Vaughn, and Ronald and Doris Vaughn, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will remember her loving heart and generous spirit.

Linda's legacy of love, kindness, and care will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will always be remembered for her warmth, her love for her family, and her deep connection to nature and animals.

A celebration of Linda's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to assist with medical and funeral costs. Please contact family for details and where to donate.
