Obituary

? Leo Dale Shirley, of Buffalo, MO, dropped his human robes from this earthly plane on wed Dec. 12, 2018. He walked his path for 71 yrs.

On his journey, Leo wore many hats: husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, Chicago Northwestern/Union Pacific conductor, friend and Marine. Leo was beaten to the heavenly train station by his parental engineers - John Harvey and Tena (Graves) Shirley; brother-in-law and surrogate father, Ken Dugan; sister, Margret, and many other closely related, unrelated, and 4 legged souls that walked, talked, guided, understood, sometimes tolerated but loved him. Now Leo joins them at that golden threshold to laugh, joke, and celebrate on his next adventure.

Leo was married to Judy (Walker) Shirley for 45 yrs. From their earthly cosmic love connection, they created their daughter- La Homa (Homie Shirley) Simmonds. She ran off and joined the Navy and found a "northerner" in her seabag, Ian Simmonds. These 2 sailors had 2 boys, Jordan Tyler and Kaine Allen Simmonds. Jordan made Leo a great granddad by having a daughter- Aurora Marie. Kaine is betrothed to Etana Thompson. The second child, from the Leo and Judy love connection, was their star son child- John Dale Shirley. He gave Leo and Judy a daughter in law, Gena (Kirk) Shirley, 6 yrs ago and a grand 4-legged furbaby named Sammie. And a reason to go on adventure vacations to the East.

Leo left many family members at the train station, his sister and surrogate mom, Sally (Graves) Dugan; and nieces Lori and Deb and many others. He also didn't grant tickets for this ride to other friends, loved ones, and comrades. They will miss his way of being able to strike up conversations with random strangers and topics, different jokes and stories (even if you heard it time and time again). Leo was an avid reader, had an eye for scenic photography especially on the rail way. During this holiday season, whatever you may believe, but as for John and Homie- they believe that St. Nick stole him because he needs more old people as supervisors to boss around the elves and tell jokes.

Leo kept with his giving spirit. He was on the Midwest Donation Registry to help save others who could benefit from his human shell. Leo was cremated at Midwest Cremation in Springfield, MO. Like any man and woman giving their lives in service for their country and family, Leo continue to serve. That Marine will be missed, "Oorah"!!

Leo asked for a very informal celebration of life and military honors in Faucett, MO. Services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018, at 1 PM in the Faucett Cemetery for Military Honors and to be followed by a gathering and Potluck at the Lions Club, 617 Grand DD SE, Faucett, MO.

Family are asking that instead of flowers sent, please donate to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. It is a 501c3 non-profit and tax deductible. http://nchv.org/index.php/getinvolved/getinvolved/donate/
