IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lee
Remington
June 7, 1944 – July 21, 2024
Lee Roy Remington, 80, of Monett, MO passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at home. He was born June 7, 1944, to Dean and Ruby Remington in Prairie Grove, AR.
As a child, Lee and his siblings had the run of Morrow Valley where they lived; fishing, hunting, swimming and hiking. On particularly hot nights, Lee would opt to sleep outdoors with the hound dogs where it was a little cooler.
The most important leisure activity for the Remington family was baseball. The Remington's had big families, often enough for their own teams. Remington baseball teams were known for their excellent playing, but also their knack for fighting if the ump made a bad call. Lee learned how to play from his dad and grew up practicing catching line drive hits. He excelled at determining which direction a ball would go as soon as it had been pitched, and often made game-winning plays, despite his coach hollering at him to do otherwise. Lee himself pitched a mean curve ball until a back injury made it impossible.
In 1974 while delivering a 100 lb. sack of potatoes to Washburn School, he caught a teacher in the cafeteria stealing cookies. It was love at first sight. When he saw her again, she happened to be at his workplace putting up flyers for a GED program. He took the classes, and a few years later, they were married.
He loved long drives through the countryside and longer walks through the woods. A natural storyteller, these journeys often included anecdotes that would have everyone rolling with laughter.
Lee was a hard worker who learned the value of money at age eleven. His first job was at a berry farm; he'd ride his hand-me-down bike seven miles to pick berries for two cents a quart. Though he would go on to work many jobs in his lifetime, his passion resided in his rental properties. In 1992, Lee started investing in rental properties and soon owned multiple mobile home parks. These residences were offered well below market value and gave hundreds of families an opportunity that they'd struggle to find elsewhere.
Lee lived a full life, but nothing made him happier than his family. He loved visiting his loved ones and talking with them on the phone. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; all of whom will remember his fist bumps but also his grit, jokes, and unwavering support.
Lee was preceded in death by parents, Dean and Ruby Remington; brothers, Terry, Don, Kenneth, Tim and Frank; and sisters, Laura and Sheila.
Lee is survived by his wife, Karen (Baker) Remington; children, Ginger Remington, Lucy (Remington) Peintner (Dustin), Chester Remington, Joanna (Remington) Baum (Bob), Kara Remington (Rob Powers), Amber Remington, and Ethan Remington; sister, Lois (Remington) Kooken; sister-in-law, Mary (Cindy) Buchanan (Micky); brother-in-law, Jim Baker (Melia Balden); fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
