Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Logan Brown, 102, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017, surrounded by his family. Lawrence was born in Wray, CO on March 30, 1915 to John Logan Brown and Ellen (Tabor) Brown. He lived on the family homestead until his family moved to Bates City, MO in 1929. Lawrence graduated from Bates City High School in 1933. Lawrence farmed most of his life except for when he worked for Adams Dairy. After retiring, Lawrence worked for Briggs Sod Farm.

Lawrence and Margery Scott were united in marriage in 1939. They had two children, Nancy Carolyn Brown (Whitaker) and Lawrence "Larry" Scott Brown. Larry and Margery were married for 58 years. Lawrence and Margery were farmers. They enjoyed square dancing in their spare time and attended the NAIA basketball tournament in KC for many years. Margery passed away in 1997.

In 2000, Lawrence moved to Springfield, MO to be closer to family. Lawrence married Delilah Campbell in 2001. Lawrence and Delilah were members of United Campbell Methodist Church. Lawrence and Delilah enjoyed Drury women's basketball and bluegrass music festivals that included camping in the back of their van. Delilah passed away in 2013.

Lawrence is preceded in death by Margery Brown: his son, Larry Brown: Delilah Brown: his daughter, Nancy Whitaker: his great grandson, Dremont J. Evans.

Survivors include his grandson, Jeffery S. Whitaker (Julie) and their family of Springfield, MO: his granddaughter, Chris (Whitaker) Evans (Chuck) and their family of Greensboro, NC: grandson, Lawrence "Scott" Brown (Stephanie) and their family of Waco, TX: niece Judith (Dan) Varalli of Independence, MO: nephew Brad (Pam) Barwise of East Tawas, MI.

We would like to thank The Gardens for the love and care they gave granddad while he lived there. We would love to thank Woodland Manor for their kindness, compassion and devotion they gave granddad the last year of his life, especially the last week before he passed away. C-Wing, you are the best!

In lieu of flowers, we would like to encourage people to donate to Compassus Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association-Greater MO Chapter.

The family will be holding a graveside Celebration of Life at the Odessa Cemetery, Odessa, MO, Saturday, November 4 at 11:30 AM.
