Larry Smith

Larry Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Larry was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, and grew up in Collinsville, Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Management from Southern Illinois University before building a remarkable career that spanned five decades. As the owner of Smith Engineering Recruiters for 50 years, Larry helped countless individuals find meaningful careers in the engineering field. He was known for his professionalism, integrity, and genuine desire to help others succeed.

Larry shared 21 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Trisha Smith. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Outside of work, Larry found joy in life's simple pleasures. He took great pride in maintaining a beautiful lawn, was an avid birdwatcher, and had a lifelong love for animals. His faithful dog, Mr. Chen, was his constant companion, and Larry delighted in taking him everywhere and enjoying long walks together. His gentle nature, generous heart, and appreciation for the outdoors will be remembered by all who knew him.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Wilma Smith of Collinsville, Illinois; his sister, Donna Rudd; and his son-in-law, Travis Allcock of Monett, Missouri.

He is lovingly survived by his side of the family, his brother Michael Smith (Karen), his children Jason Smith (Michelle), Chris Smith (Melis), Aaron Smith (Anita), and Lisa Frye; six grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew, John, Ashley, Emma and Grant; numerous great-grandchildren; his loving wife and her side of the family; stepdaughters, Tiffany Lynch (Bob), Trinity Nestleroad, and Telisa Crews; and their grandchildren, Tyler and Tyleigh Allcock, Michael and Macy Lynch, and Carson and Emme Nestleroad. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Larry will be remembered for his compassionate spirit, strong work ethic, and the love he shared with his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his career. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
