Larry Wayne Burt, 63, Springfield, Missouri, passed away November 8, 2013. He was born September 14, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Wayne and Mildred (Olson) Burt. He was a graduate of Morningside College in Iowa. He went on to earn his MA from the University of South Dakota and his PhD. from the University of Toledo. Larry authored Glenn Emmons & the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Tribalism in Crisis. He was also published in "AZ and the West", a history publication. Larry was a professor at Missouri State University before his retirement. He greatly enjoyed learning, fishing, music, and movies. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Burt. Larry is survived by his mother, Millie Burt; daughters, Brianna Lockhart and husband Michael, Emily Burt and co-pilot Jake Puebla; grandchildren, Kenady and Zander Lockhart; sister, Cheryl Johnson and husband Bruce of Franklin, TN; nieces and nephews; and special cousin and friend, David Jahnke and wife Tammy. A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013, from 2-4 PM, in a family member's home, 115 E. Darby Place, Springfield, MO, 65810.
