Kathy Neubauer

Mary Katherine “Kathy” Neubauer, nee Berry, passed peacefully on June 16, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by family. She was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Kathy was born on January 2, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to Mary Jane Berry (nee Melzow) and Robert Dee Berry and was the eldest of their five children. She married Richard “Dick” Neubauer in 1966, spending 60 years together and raising two children and many dogs. She loved her career designing kitchens and selling appliances. No one knew more about high-end quality appliances than her! Outside of work, Kathy had a full life focused on those she loved, especially her children and grandchildren of whom she was very proud and spoke of often. She also enjoyed calls with her siblings and extended family and annual road trips to visit. She loved reading, and will be fondly remembered in her easy chair, a book in hand and a dog at her feet.

Kathy and Dick initially retired to Aiken, South Carolina, and in 2023 moved to Springfield, Missouri to be closer to family. In each city, they were active in their church and in community with their neighbors.

Kathy was preceded in death by both parents and two siblings, Bill (Kathleen) Berry and Julie (Kit) Umbach. Her kindness and love for family lives on through those who remain. She is survived by her husband, Dick Neubauer, their children and spouses, Amy (Jonathan) Cohen of Santa Monica, CA; and Eric (Heather) Neubauer of Springfield, MO; her beloved grandchildren, Asher Cohen, Aislinn Neubauer, Mary-Claire Neubauer, Joseph Neubauer, and Thomas Neubauer; and her brothers and their wives, Michael (Marcy) Berry and Peter (Kathy) Berry; as well as several extended family and close friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 10am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 815 E. Farm Rd. 182, Springfield, Missouri 65810. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to the Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation, 4653 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield, MO 65810 or foundation.thelibrary.org/donate.
