Obituary

Judy Looney, age 83, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away, Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield Missouri.

Judy was born Sunday, November 1, 1942, the first of four children, to Ralph and Ardeth (Donigan) Jones, in Lebanon, Missouri.

She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1962. On Thursday, December 20, 1962, she was united with Lester Looney and shared over 63 years of marriage, love, and faith.

She traveled to many states and countries during her husband’s military career, but Missouri was always “home.”

Judy owned her own small cleaning service in Lebanon Mo. This enabled her to contribute to family expenses and manage her schedule around her children’s needs. Later, Judy and Lester moved to Springfield where she worked in the Walmart Jewelry and Apparel section (27 years) until retirement.

Not only was she a loyal and dedicated worker, she was most importantly a dedicated, loving, and loyal wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Judy’s family was extremely important to her and she selflessly loved and cared for them.

Judy had a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins combined from both her mom and dad’s families. She looked forward to attending the yearly Donigan family reunions and loved every minute of conversation and every bite of homemade ice cream.

Before COPD hindered her mobility, she spent many hours in the yard planting and nurturing petunia, hollyhock, and nasturtium flowers. She looked forward to the return of the hummingbirds and loved watching them eat from the feeders Lester set out each year.

Judy enjoyed watching her favorite show or reading a good book with one of her preferred snacks of either candy corn, cotton candy, or Lay’s potato chips, washed down with Dr. Pepper.

Judy is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Jones; mother, Ardeth Ragsdale; sisters, Linda Kathner and Mary Hahn; daughter-in-law, Shirley Looney; and infant granddaughter, Lydia Uptegrove.

Judy is survived by her husband, Lester Looney; daughter, Angela Cooper (Bob); son, Charles Looney; brother, Jay Jones (Connie); brother-in-law, Lloyd Hahn; and a special blessing of 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren with the 11th arriving in May.

She was selfless and loving and adored her family dearly. Her grandson, Charlie Looney has carried on her loving ways by being a great help to her and Lester for several years now, and must be acknowledged.

Judy is sorely missed and loved always.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
