IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy
Bridges
June 15, 1951 – September 3, 2024
On September 3, 2024, Judy Jacqueline Bridges (Holland) passed from this world and joined her parents James F. Holland and Patsy J. Holland (Cranfill), and her brother James Holland Jr. in their eternal home in Heaven. Judy passed peacefully at her home in Springfield, Missouri after a courageous battle with several health complications related to diabetes. Despite her significant pain, Judy remained strong with unshakeable faith until her last breath.
Judy was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on June 15, 1951, and was the second of five children, and oldest daughter, born to James and Patsy Holland. Being in a military family, Judy moved around a lot when she was younger and lived in several states and countries including England, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and California. After graduating from Simi Valley High School, Judy went to work as a clerk at a bank. In 1973, Judy married Paul Sorrell and moved to Missouri shortly after. Before divorcing in 1984, they were blessed with two amazing children James Ryan (Karrie) Sorrell of Preston, Missouri and Dr. Malisa Danielle Sorrell of Ballwin, Missouri.
After moving to Missouri, Judy began her career in the healthcare field, working as the office manager of a doctor's office, and eventually attended college to earn her associate's degree as a certified medical assistant. She worked in healthcare for over 35 years before retiring in 2016.
In 2007, Judy married John Bridges. John and Judy resided in Memphis, Tennessee for 9 years and eventually moved to Springfield, Missouri where they have lived for the past 7 years. Together they enjoyed traveling, gardening, and raising two fur babies, Spencer and Remi. Judy spoiled her dogs rotten and Spencer preferred to be hand-fed on the sofa, one kibble at a time.
Judy adored her family and was a proud Nana to 6 grandchildren; Quincey (Skylar) Clay, Whytney Clay, Cameron Adams, James Wyatt Sorrell, Brianna Sorrell, and Mason Sorrell. She looked forward to their visits and enjoyed making memories with them. She took pride in watching them blossom as their faith grew in Christ.
Judy loved Jesus, the ocean, spending time with her family, reading her bible, cooking, and sewing. She also enjoyed canning the fresh vegetables she harvested from her garden and sharing them with friends and family. Judy was an active member at Seminole Baptist Temple and treasured time with her church family; learning and growing in Christ.
Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her husband John Bridges of Springfield, Missouri; her children James Ryan (Karrie) Sorrell of Preston, Missouri and Dr. Malisa Danielle Sorrell of Ballwin, Missouri; her sisters Janice (Dwight) Savage of Simi Valley, California, Pamela Soliman of Dallas, Texas, and Lesa (Andrew) Palmer of Maple Valley, Washington; 6 grandchildren Quincey (Skylar) Clay, Whytney Clay, Cameron Adams, James Wyatt Sorrell, Brianna Sorrell, and Mason Sorrell; as well as several nieces, nephews, and close friends who she considered family.
Judy will always be in our hearts and remembered by her family and friends as a great cook and loyal friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. We find comfort in knowing that one day we will see her in heaven peacefully gardening, laughing, and dancing down streets paved with gold.
In lieu of flowers, a memoriam has been set up with the American Diabetes Association. Dedication donations can be made on Judy's behalf by mail, phone (1-800-DIABETES), or online at https://diabetes.org/local/missouri?form=Donate .
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Seminole Baptist Temple in Springfield, Missouri. Pastor Kevin Kolb and Pastor Kevin Williams will be officiating. After the ceremony, a private brunch will be provided for immediate family and out-of-town guests.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
