IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Mark
Halter
September 11, 1953 – February 11, 2016
Mark Halter was born on September 11, 1953, in Springfield, Missouri, to Bob and Mary Davis Halter. He departed this world unexpectedly on Thursday, February 11, 2016, in his home.
Mark grew up in Springfield, attending St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School and graduating from Glendale High School. Mark was very close in age to his brothers, Stan and Kerry, and for years "the three musketeers" did almost everything together. They played on the same baseball team with Dad as their coach, they roamed the neighborhood, and rode their bikes to the neighborhood swimming pool in summer. After high school, Mark enlisted in the Air Force, with which he spent time on the island of Okinawa.
Over the years Mark worked in the construction industry and as an over-the-road truck driver. What he really preferred to be doing was fishing and camping, again, often with his brothers. He loved spending time with family on Mom's pontoon boat. He was very bright, with a trove of knowledge about subjects he'd read about over the years and could always call to mind on command. He had a sharp wit and a quirky sense of humor.
On January 10, 1998, Mark was united in marriage with Terry Gamblian. Mark and Terry lived for a while in Terry's home town of Mexico, Missouri, later settling in Springfield.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Bob Halter.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Halter of Nixa; siblings, Teresa and Ron Pope of Springfield, Stan and Paula Halter of Boaz, Kerry Halter and Maria Halter, both of Nixa; two step-daughters,Teresa and John Mays and Tammy Gamblian of Sedalia; and seven step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m., in the Weaver Cemetery in Ozark with full military honors under the direction of Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services.
Mark was loved and will be missed.
