Joan Pope, 83, passed away peacefully in her home in Springfield, MO, Saturday, July 22, 2017. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, nana, sister, aunt and friend. J
oan was born September 4, 1933, in New Jersey. She married the love of her life and soulmate, Bill Pope, on January 10, 1964.
Her self-proclaimed proudest accomplishment was raising her 5 cherished children. She also adored her 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition, she held many careers in her lifetime including an enlistment in the US Navy, administrative assistant for Lockhead Corporation, assisting with operations of their chicken farm, making dolls for Silver Dollar City, owning and operating her own real estate agency and finally, running her own ladies boutique shop. Sewing and crafting were her passion and brought her great pleasure. Even after she lost her vision, she used her talents to volunteer for Newborns in Need.
Joan touched so many lives over the years and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Bill Pope, Springfield, MO; her daughter, Gail Phelan and husband Bob of Rolla, MO; her son, Skip Pope and wife Tami of Charlotte, NC; her daughter, Kathy Fitzwater and husband Chris of Richmond, Mo; her daughter, Karen Williamson and husband Stephen of Springfield, MO; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 siblings, a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morton and Marjorie Clark; and son, Kenny Pope ,who she lost 22 years ago.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, July 26, in the Galena Community Church, 209 N. Maple St., Galena, MO.
