Obituary

Jerry David Snodgrass, also known as Chub, was transformed from his Earthly body to his perfect, Heavenly body on July 28, 2023, at 84 years of age.

Jerry was born in Springfield, Missouri, on May 18, 1939, to Raymond and Nellie (McAtee) Snodgrass. He was the baby of the family with three older brothers Raymond Jr., Kenneth, and Dale.  As a family they enjoyed camping and fishing on the White River, then at Table Rock Lake. Jerry graduated from Central High School in 1957, then attended Draughn's Business College.  Immanuel Baptist Church was a significant part of their lives, where Jerry met Sharon Kenworthy, his future wife of 62 years.  From the choir loft, he saw a cute 15-year-old girl and bet a friend a quarter he could take her on a date. Three years later they were married on October 16, 1960.  Three children were added, Kirby David, Stephen Kraig, and Kandy Caye.

Jerry, Sharon, and the kids enjoyed traveling to beaches, especially Ft. Walton Beach, FL. with their friends, the Elliots.  Around Springfield, they enjoyed spending time with extended family and friends.  Anywhere Jerry was, laughter could be heard.  He loved to tell jokes and stories to anyone within earshot.

Jerry was an active member of Second Baptist Church, then a deacon at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He was a leader with high school and college students, taught an adult small group, and went on many mission trips to Louisiana.

Many West-side Springfieldians knew Jerry from the Dairy Queen he owned and operated for 19 years on College St.  He saw it not just as a business, but as part of the community.  Employees were like family and each one heard that Jesus loves them.

In 1986 he gained another name, Papa.  Countless t-ball, softball, baseball, and basketball games and band concerts were attended.  He gave lots of gifts to the grandkids just to watch their excitement. They enjoyed fishing with Papa and heard many of his stories.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Kirby; his parents, Raymond and Nellie; and brothers, Raymond Jr., Kenneth, and Dale.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Kenworthy) Snodgrass; children, Kraig (Erica) Snodgrass and Kandy (Vince) Blubaugh; grandchildren, Jessica Snodgrass, Jayme (Josh) Kimball, Samuel (Allie) Blubaugh, and Caleb Blubaugh; and six great-grandchildren; as well as many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM with the memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 5, 2023, Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
