Obituary

Jane Isabelle Knickerbocker Adams of Hollister, MO passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at 87 years of age. She was born February 23, 1938, the fourth child to Ande and Ada Knickerbocker in Rochester, MI. Born without her right eye and a cleft palate, her parents fed her with an eyedropper for the first three days of her life. After that the family doctor suggested taking her to the University of Michigan Hospital. Four years before Jane was born her parents had buried their six-year-old daughter so they were eager to do whatever needed to be done. They arranged for an adult supervisor to care for their other children and took their days old daughter to save her life. She had the repair surgery to her lip and was in the hospital until she was four months old. Jane didn't have many medical problems after that. She got glasses at age 3 and her jaw had to be put on a hinge when she was around 16 years old. She was blessed with good health for the rest of her adult life.

During her life she lived in San Antonio, Texas, Pontiac, Michigan and Branson and Hollister, Missouri. Jane met Pat Adams in Pontiac, Michigan around 1959. They married July 1962 and from this union came one child, Altha Eloise - May 1963. She did have three miscarriages in the following years. Jane lived with her daughter, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law which at times could be a volatile combination. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life but for a time she was employed outside of the home as a school crossing guard. She was also a compassionate caregiver to her sickly husband for 11 long years. Her favorite rolls were wife of 22 years, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; her sisters, Grace and Hazel; and her brothers, Bud and Jim.

Jane was a tremendous influence in the lives of her four grandchildren. She was there for them when her daughter couldn't be. She never hesitated or complained. She had such a sweet disposition but could be a badger if you got under her skin. If she loved you, she protected you, disciplined you, laughed with you and loved you soooooo much.
