James Veronee, 76, of Ozark, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014. He was born May 18, 1938, in Charleston, SC, to James and Margaret Veronee. James spent most of his life with a paint brush in his hand. He was an old school sign painter that traveled all over the United States painting signs, murals, or putting a fresh coat of paint on your home. Jim lived in the Springfield area the last 12 years doing signage. Some of his most famous works are the murals downtown by Trader Printing and Queen City Cycles. He also loved doing magic, often entertaining difficult customers with a trick or two and starting life-long friendships. Or giving a child a curious look of laughter. Jim was a great friend of Bill W. who helped him through many of life's challenges. Jim was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony Allen and Walter George Shafer, Jr; father, James Edward Sr.; mother, Margaret Griffin, and wife, Dora Jones. Jim is survived by three sisters, Jan Kalinski, McCook, NE, Dusty Clark Concordia, KS, Beverly Michele Shaffer, Hazelwood, AL; one brother Michael Veronee, John's Island, SC; and three daughters, Vena Veronee, St. Petersburg, FL, Grace Veronee, Greer, SC, and Vada Jean Waters, Garden Grove, CA, that he loved dearly. Our old friend will be greatly missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services, Springfield.
