James Melvin Sheffield, 79, of Springfield, MO, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2024. He was born October 27, 1944, to Basil and Mae Evelyn Sheffield in Blytheville, AR.

He spent his early childhood in Arkansas before his family moved to Mississippi. He later moved to Missouri and married the love of his life, Sheila, on October 21, 1994. James dearly loved fishing, hunting, and playing games with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Basil Sheffield, Jr.; and his sister, Rae Suddieth.

James is survived by his wife, Sheila; his son, James Douglas Sheffield (Kelly); his daughter, Meggan Moore (John); siblings, Hazel Hale (J.D.), Rebecca Senter (Max), Faye Franks, Jackie Fuhr (Dave), Barbara Lindsey, Vickie Shelton, Ricky Sheffield, and Phillip Sheffield (Felicia); five granddaughters, Kayla, Tiffany, Jackline, Whitney, and Allie; and many nieces and nephews, including one special nephew, Matthew Roberts, who visited him often.
