James E. "Rooster Groves- October 18, 1955 - May 18, 2023

James E. "Rooster" Groves departed this life for the big lake in the sky on May 18, 2023, at the age of 67.

He was born on October 18, 1955, to Floyd J and Martha (Medley) Groves and was the eldest of four children.  He was a graduate of Central High School and retired from Kraft Foods after 36 years of service.

Rooster was a lover of ALL things sports related and was an avid fisherman who loved to share his catch. More than anything he enjoyed being in his boat on the water; especially with his son Chris. When he wasn't watching sports, fishing, or playing golf you would probably find him "headed west" to pull the handle of a slot machine.

If you knew him, you may have thought your name was Dummy momentarily. He had a quick, snarky wit about him, a smile that lit up his whole face and a deep, quiet, no-nonsense kind of love for the people in his life. He would cuss you in one breath and give you the shirt off his back with the next. He was simply, the greatest blessing in our lives and was loved by so many.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Patty Swearingin and Lisa Getman; and great- nephew, Cody Maggard.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Groves (Britt) and Chris Groves (Jo Ann); Granddaughter Hailey Brandt (Johnny); Great-Granddaughter Brynlee Payne; Sister, Deanna Groves (Mike); Special friend, Karen Clement (Les); several nieces, nephews and a host of life long friends including Hooper, George, and Buff.

A celebration of life will be held at Stockton Lake on June 11, 2023.
