Gil was raised in Maryland Heights, Missouri, where he graduated from Pattonville High School in 1965. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Schroyer. They married in May 1965 and went on to have three children.

His insurance career eventually brought him and his family to Springfield, Missouri, where he continued working with National Life before transitioning to a career as an insurance broker. He was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge of St. Louis, Missouri.
In addition to his professional life, Gil was an avid fisherman, a hobby he cherished, especially during weekends when he would plan fishing trips with his son-in-law, Mark Carriger. Gil also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and supporting them in all their endeavors.
Gil was preceded in death by his father, William Eugene Boden; his mother, Gilberta Leona (Bond) Boden; his sister, Raeann Reznik; and his son-in-law, Mark Carriger.
