Gary Vincent Morrison, 69, of Springfield, MO, passed away November 26, 2020. He was born August 12, 1951, in Oceanport, NJ.
Gary was predeceased by his parents John W. Morrison and Paula Keil; brothers, Michael, Ron, Patrick and Sean; Step-Mother, Priscilla Kent and previous partner, Jim Twomey Jr.
Gary strived to be of service to others in the communities that he belonged to in Springfield, MO and in New York State where lived for most of his life.
Gary had many years of sobriety and participated in AA in Springfield, MO and Middletown, NY. AA gave Gary the strength to get sober and stay sober; to live the motto "one day at time".
Gary was a lifelong learner; he loved books and learning. He was an individual who continued his education even when he was no longer working towards a degree.
His education started with an Associate's degree from Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park, NY. and completed his education with a doctorate in education from Teacher's College at Columbia University, New York City.
Gary worked for several year's a college registrar in New York State and in Springfield, MO.
Gary is survived by his partner Curt Hawk of Springfield, Mo., who provided Gary the support when he needed it the most. His sister Page Morrison of Oro Valley, AZ and her partner Paul; his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Morrison of Orlando, FL; niece, Jennifer Morrison and fiancé Graham of the United Kingdom; nephew, RJ Morrison and wife Ali of Orlando, Fl; cousins, Gail Morrison of Lakewood, NJ and Sr Anne Marie (Ellen) Liston of Newport, RI; his previous partner's son, Jim Twomey III and his wife Vicki of Long Island, NY. and Fr Matt Flatley who shared guidance and remembrances of their friends from the Culinary which brought Gary joy and comfort.
Because of COVID-19 Gary's family will not hold services at this time. Donations can be made in memory of the Springfield library system in his name or other organizations that assist with literacy.
