Gary Kent Franklin was born October 15, 1946, in Springfield, Missouri to Amos R. Franklin and Vauda “Irene” (Rush) Franklin. He passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 29, 2026, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Gary grew up in Urbana, MO. He was saved and baptized as a young boy at Bennett Springs Christian Camp alongside his beloved sister Lauretta. He graduated from Skyline High School class of 1964. After high school, Gary attended Draughon's Business College. He would go on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in business from Southwest Baptist College in 1974. Years later he would continue his education at Southwest Missouri State University studying Accounting. He moved to Kimberling City, MO in 2002 when he purchased Southwest Business Management, changing the name to Franklin Financial Services. He continued to work and run Franklin Financial Services until 2025.
Gary loved the outdoors. He loved to boat and fish but his one true joy was riding his Harley. He belonged to motorcycle group The HOGS and enjoyed many rides with his fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. He always felt his biggest accomplishment was his 3 daughters, Laura, Leslie and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Lauretta Franklin; his daughters and their families: Laura and Jeremy Montgomery, Leslie Franklin and John Gorman, and Leah and Eric Gonzales; and his grandchildren: Mia Montgomery, Collin Montgomery, Jay Gorman, Gavin Gorman, Adrian Gonzales, and Annabelle Gonzales. He is also survived by his aunt, Marie Rush; his nephew, Heath Hawkins and family; and his niece, Haley Toombs and family, along with many beloved cousins, close friends, and longtime clients.
A Graveside Service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery on May 23, 2026, at 10:00 am.
