IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugene
Stevens
February 9, 1946 – November 24, 2024
Eugene Arthur Stevens, 78, of Republic, MO, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was born on February 9, 1946, to Eugene and Virginia Stevens (Skrzynski) in Rochester, NY.
Eugene grew up in Rochester's Polish American community, where he formed lifelong memories and values. He graduated from Edison Technical and Occupational High School in 1964. Soon after, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967 as a Combat Engineer in the 7th Engineer Battalion (1st Marine Division), including fighting in Vietnam. His service instilled a deep pride in being a Marine, a title he cherished throughout his life.
In 1968, Eugene married Cathy Lee Kowalski, whom he had known since they were just 13 and 11 years old. Their love story spanned over five decades, marked by devotion and mutual respect. Eugene worked tirelessly for 37 years at Case Hoyt, retiring in 2004. A dedicated family man, he prioritized providing the best life possible for his wife and children and instilled in his sons the importance of hard work and determination and the value of leaving a place better than how you found it.
Eugene had an insatiable curiosity about the world, always eager to learn something new. Whether through books, documentaries, or conversations, he enjoyed expanding his knowledge and sharing it with those around him. Those who knew him are better for it.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Stevens; his mother, Virginia Stevens; his sister, Christine Goutremout, and her husband, Phillip; his brother, Leonard Stevens; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Cathy Lee Stevens; his sons, Marc Stevens (Rebecca) and Kristopher Stevens (Tanya); his granddaughter, Alexis Stevens, and her partner, Nick; his sister, Melanie Popick (Gary); as well as many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project in his memory
Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services of Springfield, MO.
