IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas Milton
Mckean
April 30, 1940 – September 28, 2018
Douglas Milton McKean, 78, of Springfield, MO, passed away September 28, 2018. He was born April 30, 1940 in Sayre, PA, to Milton Isaac and Alice Tuttle McKean.
Doug, like his mother Alice, never knew a stranger. He always had a smile and a hug ready for all. Doug cherished the moments he spent with his nieces and nephews; striving to embarrass them yet loving them dearly.
Doug was proud of his Native American and Celtic Heritage. He believed nature is kin and spent many hours hiking at Lake Springfield and the Nature Center. His four legged companions Lady Bear and Boomer often joined him.
He graduated from Scotia-Glenville, NY High School in 1958 and earned an Associate Degree in Business from Cobleskill Community College, NY. He also attended Missouri State University.
Doug served his country in the United States Navy. He served his Lord as a Youth Minster and led the Clown Ministry at Wesley United Methodist church.
Springfield Villa was where he resided for the past 10 years. He was always happy when "his girls" would visit (human and four legged alike). He made it a point to watch over his roommate and visit his friends daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert McKean.
Doug is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley McKean; his daughter, Laurel McKean; his sister, Bonnie Yetter and husband Kip; his brother, Al McKean and wife Barb; his sister, Sue Burton and husband Tom; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and loved ones.
Services will be held at 12 PM, Friday, October 19, 2018, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends after the service from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Family Room of Springfield Villa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools or an animal rescue organization of the donor's choice.
