Obituary

Dorothy Lines, 95, of Springfield passed away September 21, 2018. She was born August 1, 1923 in French Lick, IN to Zenor and Jessie Borsenberger Byrum.

Dorothy and her three brothers grew up in rural Hardinville, IL. After graduating from Oblong

Township High School in 1940 she moved to Springfield to help her Aunt Mary operate a café at the Union Stockyards. There she met and later married Jay McMillen.

During the war years they lived in Virginia, Montana, California and Louisiana before settling back in Springfield. After this marriage ended a strong, determined Dorothy singlehandedly raised her sons Larry and Jim.

In 1976 she married Gordon Lines. Dorothy retired from the Woman's Clinic in 1979 after 37 years of loyal service. She and Gordon enjoyed traveling the US and Canada and fishing in Ozarks area lakes. Always an avid sports fan, she followed St. Louis Cardinals baseball and MSU Lady Bears basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, husband Gordon and a host of close friends. She is survived by her sons Larry McMillen (Wanda) of Springfield and Jim McMillen (Shelle) of Arlington, TX. Dorothy had five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Fremont Senior Living for making Mom's last two years pleasant ones.

There will be a memorial service for Dorothy at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 515 E. Division. Donations may be made to the St. John's Memorial Fund, the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of one's choice.
